The Blue Shed, V&A Waterfront, Cape Town
7-13 April 2008

The event turned out to be a big success, despite some of us having had to abandon our regular line of work for a few days or more. Visitors showed a lot of interest in the displays and the games...

We all had fun and thoroughly enjoyed setting up and playing the games, meeting new people, and discussing issues of warfare with each other and interested spectators.

My thanks must go out to Alex Barguirdjian of Ye Old Armoury (www.yeoldarmoury.com), who arranged the event with the Blue Shed management, and acted as co-sponsor with myself (SA Miniatures) and the other members of the Peninsula Wargames Group (www.pwg.org.za) who took off time to spend their days entertaining interested spectators - we all know watching a wargame is like watching paint dry! - no easy task to keep their interest! Here in particular I would like to thank Tim Cruise, Bobby Stathoussis, Tim Mercurio, Mike Schubert, Craig Nevin, my wife Ricky, and my sons, Jayjay and Timothy, for spending soooo much time at A Week Of War, helping me with the displays, terrain, and games, and for having such abundance of patience.  I must also thank those who arranged and attended individual games, like Paul Gouws, Harry Adlard, Michael Karsten (our PWG Chairman), Greg Pullin (PWG Treasurer), Anthony van Dijk, Dean Hinzelman, Lindsay Hall, Damian Enslin, Piers Morris, Evan Gotte and Charles, and the Warhammer team from Wizards!

Thank you also to Alex, Murray and Mike, of the International Plastics Modellers Society (IPMS) Cape Peninsula (www.ipmssa.za.org), for displaying their models over the weekend. It was much appreciated and attracted a lot of interest.

The following hobby dealers provided consignment stock of scale models and miniatures to SA Miniatures for resale at the event: Hobby Warehouse, Claremont; The Warrior Toy Museum, Simons Town; Model Railroad Specialists, Plumstead; Ballistic RC, Durbanville; Murray Baxter (plastic kits); and Evan Gotte (Warhammer). While the sales were not spectacular, the 10% commission earned this way went a long way in recovering some of the overheads incurred in organizing the event! Thank you all for your confidence in me, entrusting me with thousands of Rands worth of stock as consignment. I appreciate your support and your assurances of support in future repeats of this event.

I would also like to thank the management of the Blue Shed, V&A Waterfront (in particular Richard, Amanda, and Shannon), for promoting and advertising the event, and allowing us to use excessive floor space as well as the workshop for this event.

I can only foresee that the next occurrunce of the event will be much larger, well supported, widely promoted and advertised, with more historical warfare related displays and participants.... and many, many, many more visitors!

And that day is already close at hand.... in the form of  “A Weekend Of War“, occurring on the weekend of Fathers Day (13-15 June 2008)! Watch This Space...!
